Discovering the Night Sky
This was the perfect way to introduce our students to the joys of astronomy.
The owner/instructor, John Meader, brought his portable, inflatable planetarium. Students explored the Solar System and discussed the planets and dwarf planets, including pointing out constellations. Interesting fact: the North Star is NOT the brightest in the sky!

Dear Families,
I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to each of you for making our recent food drive at Carmel Elementary School a success. Your generosity, time, and effort helped make a significant difference in the lives of families in need right here in Carmel, and I am so grateful to be part of a school community that cares as deeply as you do.
This drive was a reminder of what we can accomplish when we come together as a community—how every small action, no matter how big or small, contributes to making a positive change. You’ve not only helped provide for those in need, but you’ve also set an example of compassion and empathy for our students to look up to.
Thank you again for your support and for making a real difference in the lives of others. . You are the heart of what makes our school so special.
With sincere appreciation,
Ashley Exley, LCSW

Good morning,
There will be a 2-hour delay this morning in RSU 87 to allow time for roads to be treated and for temperatures to rise. There will also be no am Pre-K today.
Stay safe!
Superintendent Turner

No School Today 12/10/24!
RSU 87 will be closed today due to the threat of icy road conditions throughout the day.

December has arrived with some beautiful snow. Students took time from their busy morning on December 3rd to create ornaments for the town tree. Their ornaments all came out amazing! They will walk to the town tree on December 11th to see them placed on the branches. Special thanks to Katie Howell and her Helper Elf for getting them cut and ready for us and our fabulous volunteers: Amanda Martin, Kari Dorrbecker, Grammie Angie, Jen Straniero, and her little Helper Elf (Isabella). We couldn't do it without our volunteers!

This is just a quick reminder that today is the start of our school food drive. Each classroom will have a bin to collect donations for the next two weeks. Gift cards count as one donated item. The classroom with the highest donation wins a pizza or ice cream party!

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Jessica Meek, Vice Chair of the RSU 87 School Board. Jessica served our school community with dedication. Her leadership, kindness, and support will be missed by all who had the privilege of working alongside her. Our thoughts are with Jessica's family and our school community during this difficult time. https://www.gofundme.com/f/qp8cns-support-jessicas-family-in-their-time-of-loss https://www.gofundme.com/f/qp8cns-support-jessicas-family-in-their-time-of-loss?lang=en_US&utm_campaign=fp_sharesheet&utm_medium=customer&utm_source=sms

PICTURE DAY TOMORROW! Don't forget!

RSU 87 is in DESPERATE need of substitutes!
Want an opportunity to make a difference in our kids' lives?
Please consider filling out an application to be added to our district sub list!
Substitute teachers play a far more important role in schools than simply covering classes, they ensure that our students have all of the resources they need to be successful. When schools are short staffed, everyone has to work together to cover the open periods. This takes resources away from others and impacts the quality education we strive to provide for our students.
If you're interested in making a positive impact on the kids in our communities please consider signing up to sub today! Pay rates are $96 for regular substitutes and $101 for those with a college degree, and all substitutes will be required to be fingerprinted. Please fill out our substitute application located at rsu87.org, under the "Documents" tab, and return it to our Central Office, 44 Plymouth Road, Carmel, ME 04419, to get the process started!
